A demo reel is more time-consuming than ONTD

Thu Oct 15, 2009, 6:03 PM
Been working on my demo reel for apparently 6 months now, and although I have no idea when the end date's going to be, there has been tons of progress made. Namely, I can officially look at my pencil tests and know exactly where I need to add/subtract a frame or redo the anatomy. As a freshman, I'd let anything slip through as long as it was moving. Speaking of which, I can't help but feel more confident as I look through the previously recorded animations of new freshman (Alums get full film studio privileges, and that's what I've been doing all summer) and see them learning extremely basic things like bouncing balls and metamorphosis and really KNOWING I can do way more advanced things. What's really been consuming me is my mantra, "Can I do any better?" If I can make a fox on ice skates glide more smoothly, I'll spend 2 hours redoing his legs. If I'm not impressed by a Tex Avery-style take's comic timing, I'll stretch it to the nth degree. Doing all this I've hardly had any time to draw just for the sheer fun of it (i.e. comics, LMFOTF, fanart) so I'll just have to keep doing what I'm doing til I have 30 seconds to a minute of combined clips to pass as a Demo Reel to post on youtube and advertise to companies.
So...yeah. Sorry if it seems like forever to post something, but I just want to go to a job interview with the certainty I've done my very best. And yes, I'm my absolute worst critic. Blame my imagination.
On the sunny side, the release of New Moon has given me lots of LMFOTF material, (Bella's depression through the holidays, Jacob fangirls asking a native american guy why he can't fursplode, a PSA) and I have a great Charlie Brown/True Blood Lite style crossover.

Thank you. Thank you so much for your kinds words. I've always been told my friends and teachers that my artwork is good, it's just that there's this nagging voice that asks if my artwork is enough to get me hired by a successful company. So I cherish comments like yours because sometimes a few kind words are just the boost I need. Thanks especially for the hands bit, I used to draw them like pointy blobs back in the day!
